USDT on Ethereum: swap limits and where it goes
ERC-20 is the version of USDT that everything accepts and the one that costs the most to move. That trade is the whole decision: on a large transfer the fee is a rounding error against certainty of acceptance, and on a small one it can be a meaningful share of the amount. Nothing about the token differs — only the network charging you to move it.

Where the address format helps you and where it does not
Ethereum shares its address format with every other EVM network, so an address that is valid here is also valid on several chains you did not mean. The address cannot catch that mistake for you; only reading the network beside it can.
The fee moves with the network, not with the amount
Sending a hundred dollars costs the same as sending a hundred thousand, because the network charges for the work rather than the value. That is why a small swap out of ERC-20 is disproportionately expensive and a large one is not.
