How to Accept a First-Time Crypto Payment from a Client

Your client wants to pay in crypto but has never done it before. How to walk them through their first payment without errors or unnecessary back-and-forth.

How to Accept a First-Time Crypto Payment from a Client

When someone is paying crypto for the first time, give them one clear path, not a choice of ten coins and seven networks. Narrow it down on your end, and most people get through it without calling support.

What to tell the client before they pay

Three lines in a message remove half the questions. Tell them which coin and network to use (for example, USDT on the Tron network), where to get it (any crypto exchange), and that on the payment page they just need to copy the address and send the exact amount shown.

What the payment page looks like

The client opens the link and sees: the amount, the wallet address, a QR code, and the network name. There's a timer, a status line, and brief instructions. They copy the address into their wallet or scan the QR, send the amount, and the page updates itself to show the payment received. No account, no password.

Common first-timer mistakes and how to prevent them

Wrong network: this is the most common reason money goes missing. Tell the client before they pay: USDT on TRC20, not ERC20. The payment page shows the network clearly, but an extra reminder costs nothing.

Network fee: the client needs a small balance to cover their wallet's transaction fee, otherwise the transfer won't go through.

Exact amount: ask them to send precisely what the page shows, not a rounded figure.

After the payment

Let the client know the status will update within a few minutes. That's usually enough. If something comes up, @swappsy on Telegram can help.

By the second payment, they won't need any guidance.
