What Happens When a Customer Pays on the Wrong Network
A customer sent USDT on the wrong network - what happens to the money, whether it can be recovered, and how to prevent the mistake.

If a customer sends the right token on the wrong network, the funds technically leave their wallet, but you do not see them. Example: you are expecting USDT on Tron, the customer sent USDT on Ethereum. Nothing arrives on the Tron address.
Why this happens
An address can look identical across different networks. The customer picks the network in their wallet, and if they pick wrong, the transfer goes somewhere else. The transaction confirms on the network the customer chose, and the payment gateway waiting on a different network never sees it.
Can the money be recovered
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends on whether you control the private keys for the address where the funds actually landed. If the gateway generated the address and you do not have key access, you need to contact the service's support. A good gateway may be able to help with manual recovery, but that is not guaranteed and depends on the specific error.
Who is responsible
Technically the mistake is on the sender's side: they chose the wrong network. But that is exactly why a well-designed payment page must show the network prominently, next to the address, not in small print at the bottom of the page.
How to reduce these mistakes
Show the network alongside every address: label it specifically, "USDT, Tron network," rather than a plain "payment address." A QR code helps: the customer scans it and their wallet fills in the address automatically, with no manual typing. Support must be real: if the mistake happens, the customer needs somewhere to turn.
