What a Scam Token Is and How to Avoid Buying One

What a scam token and rug pull are in crypto, how to spot one before buying, and why sticking to coins with real history is the simplest defense.

What a Scam Token Is and How to Avoid Buying One

A scam token is a coin built to take your money. A polished website, social media noise, trading activity at launch, and then the creators cash out and the token goes to zero. This is called a rug pull.

How it works

The team launches a token and keeps a large share for themselves. They build hype: promised partnerships, a future listing, a roadmap. As ordinary buyers push the price up, the team sells their stack and disappears. Sometimes this takes days. Sometimes minutes.

How to stay clear when exchanging

Work with coins that have a real history: Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and other established assets. An unknown token promising 100x with no traceable origin is a reason to skip, not investigate. A rate that looks far too good for a low-profile coin almost always means a scam or liquidity that will vanish the moment you try to exit.

The rule that holds

When someone tells you to act fast on a token you have never heard of, the urgency is the product. That pressure is deliberate. The right answer is to slow down, not speed up.
