How to Exchange a Coin That Is Not on Major Exchanges

A coin being absent from the big exchanges does not mean it cannot be swapped. Specialized exchange services support hundreds of coins that never made it onto major platforms. No account, no verification required.

Why big exchanges skip certain coins

Major exchanges list assets that meet volume thresholds, have active development teams, pass audits, and clear legal requirements. Coins with lower turnover, privacy coins like Monero and Zcash, or networks that are technically awkward to support simply do not make the cut.

That is not a verdict on the coin itself. Monero, for example, is intentionally absent from some exchanges because of their policies toward privacy-focused assets.

How to find an exchange that supports your coin

Check a few services manually: enter the source coin and what you want to receive. Exchange services cover different pairs, and one may carry your coin when another does not.

If the coin is very obscure, look at decentralized exchanges (DEXs) on the relevant network. You can add a token manually by contract address. The risk is higher there: no support, and nobody verifies whether the token is legitimate.

How to confirm support before sending

Verify that the service shows the pair and a quoted rate before you send anything. If it says "pair temporarily unavailable" or shows no amount, support is not available at that moment. Do not send coins hoping someone will figure it out.

Check the recipient address format. Different networks use different address formats. A Monero address looks nothing like an ERC20 address.

A note on Monero

XMR can be swapped through services that specifically support privacy coins. It works, but takes longer than most: the Monero network requires more confirmations by default for security reasons.
