Check your Monero confirmations and when the funds unlock
Data: your browser talks directly to xmrchain.net. Your browser queries the public xmrchain.net explorer for the transaction and current chain height. The transaction ID goes to that explorer only, never to us.
Monero outputs cannot be spent until 10 blocks after they are mined - roughly twenty minutes.
The 10-block lock, in one paragraph
Every Monero output is locked for 10 blocks by consensus - about 20 minutes at the 2-minute block target. This is not a wallet quirk and cannot be skipped: it protects against reorganizations invalidating decoy selection. Your balance can show the coins as received while they are still unspendable. Paste a transaction ID and this page shows its confirmations so far and an estimate of when the funds unlock, fetched by your browser from a public Monero block explorer.
The part that surprises people: change is locked too
When you spend, your wallet usually sends change back to itself - and that change output is a new output, locked for 10 blocks like any other. This is why sending a payment can make the rest of your balance briefly unspendable. Nothing is wrong, and nothing is stuck: the change unlocks on schedule.
What this means when funding an exchange order
If you fund an order right after receiving XMR, your wallet may refuse to send until the incoming output unlocks. Create the order when your funds are already spendable, or expect to wait out the lock before the deposit can leave your wallet.
Questions
- My wallet shows the coins but I cannot send them. Is something wrong?
- Almost certainly not. Received outputs - including your own change - are locked for 10 blocks by network rules. The checker shows exactly how far along the lock is.
- Can a service or a miner unlock funds faster?
- No. The 10-block lock is enforced by consensus. Anyone claiming to bypass it is not telling the truth.
